Less vs Pour Decision: Mindful Drinking or a Plan to Quit?

Less is a free mindful-drinking tracker from the makers of Zero. Pour Decision is a plan to get you to zero drinks. How the two compare on goals, tracking, privacy and price.

Less, from the makers of the Zero fasting app, is a free alcohol tracker with a playful twist: what you drink changes the weather on a little sailing journey. Pour Decision also tracks your drinks, but it's built around a plan to stop. Here's how the two compare.

We make Pour Decision, so we've tried to be fair: features and prices below are from each app's US App Store listing in October 2026, and we've included where Less is the better pick.

Fewer drinks or no drinks

Less is about moderation. You pick a weekly limit, log drinks with a tap, and watch your daily drinks set the weather and your weekly total set your speed. Its website promises “Less Alcohol. More Drink-Free Days.” Stopping completely isn't part of the pitch.

Pour Decision starts from the other end. A few questions about your drinking turn into a plan with a quit date and weekly goals that drop until they reach zero. When you get there, a sober clock takes over, and an “I'm about to relapse” button with guided breathing is there for the hard moments.

Where Pour Decision is better

  • A plan that ends at zero. Your weekly goal moves down for you, instead of staying at a limit you picked on day one.
  • Help with cravings. The relapse button, sober clock and daily mood check-ins have no equivalent in Less.
  • Precise units. 200+ drinks with standard portions and ABV, counted in your country's units or standard drinks, not just “one drink”.
  • No account. Pour Decision has no sign-up, and your logs and moods stay on your phone.
  • Still growing. Pour Decision is actively updated. Less's latest App Store release is from 2021.
  • Extra tools. A sip pacer, a blood alcohol estimate, a yearly mood calendar and CSV export.

Where Less is better

  • It's free. No subscription and no in-app purchases.
  • A friendlier take on tracking. The weather and sailing theme makes logging feel like a game.
  • Reading material. A Tips tab with expert-reviewed articles, podcasts and mocktail recipes.

Which one should you choose?

If you want a free, light way to notice how much you drink and add a few dry days, Less does that. If you want to stop drinking, choose Pour Decision: a plan that takes you to zero, and the tools to stay there.

Frequently asked questions

Can Less help me quit drinking?

Less is built for mindful drinking: its App Store subtitle is "If you drink, drink mindfully" and it helps you set a weekly limit and add drink-free days. It doesn't have a quit date, a sober clock or craving help. If your goal is to stop, an app built for quitting, like Pour Decision, is a better fit.

Is Less free?

Yes. In the US App Store in October 2026, Less was listed as free with no in-app purchases. Pour Decision is free to download, and its plan and features are part of Pour Decision Pro at $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or a one-time lifetime purchase.

Is Less still being updated?

The most recent version on its US App Store listing in October 2026 was 1.1.10, released in 2021.
